Automattic brings note-sharing app Simplenote to Android
If you’re a fan of Automattic’s note sharing app Simplenote, but have been frustrated that it hasn’t been available Android then this news should please you.
The company, which is best known for blogging platform and CMS WordPress, today announced that the Android version of the app is free and available for download right away. The app also allows you to create an account when you’re ready to back up your notes and sync with other devices. Previous users will be able to get started with their Android phones or tablets right away.
The company says the new versions of the app are intended to make it simple for people to write and share notes across all their devices, for Mac and iOS 7 later this month too.
Simplenote is available on smartphones and tablets running Android 4.03 and up and is intended to have free, transparent syncing across Android, iOS, Mac, and the web.
Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, acquired Simplenote maker Simperium back in January 2013, and it says that this is the first of a series of updates to the Simplenote family of apps.
Over the next couple of weeks, the company hopes to “complete the relaunch of Simplenote” by releasing Simplenote for Mac, a redesigned Simplenote for web, and a “completely rebuilt Simplenote for iOS 7”.
It also claims to have catered for developers by releasing a Simperium library for Android. Simperium is a service for seamless syncing across devices. It powers all the storage and networking in Simplenote and, according to Automattic, is available for any other app developer to use as well.
