Galaxy Round is most ‘naturally curved’ smartphone… says Samsung

There it is! Samsung just released an ad of the so-called Samsung Galaxy Round — a smartphone that has a curved display. This comes right after LG just released the LG G Flex smartphone earlier today. Both South Korean tech giants, Samsung and LG, are in a race to bring the world’s first and best curved smartphone. Both are, however, going about it differently.

Samsung is currently the lead producer of smartphones and tablets worldwide and has almost covered every screen size physically possible so it’s just natural for the company to start bending its screens. Or is it? Are curved phones really the future of smartphones and tablets?

The Korean ad attempts to show how “natural” the Samsung’s unique curved design really is. The video shows people holding and touching various objects such as an avocado (naturally), a baby’s hand, an egg and of course the company’s Galaxy Round.

The main difference between Samsung and LG’s curved smartphone design is the fact that they are curved in a different axis, but both have their own pros and cons.

On the one hand, LG claims the G Flex will give users a better viewing experience when watching movies. The company says that because the screen has a horizontal curve, it will give you an “IMAX-like” experience. Critics have noted, however, that this design is impractical to seamlessly fit in your front pocket.

This is where Samsung plans to step in. The tech giant notes that its Galaxy Round’s design is made to better both the user’s grip when holding it in portrait mode and when it’s in your front pocket in effect wrapping around your leg.
