First world problems and more: the 3 videos Weird Al dropped over the weekend
No, it’s not over yet.
Parody champion Weird Al is still on a mission to release eight music videos from his new album in eight days, and the latest targets are celeb name dropping, spots fans and the ever-present first world problems concept. It’s been a crazy ride in the run to promote his new album Mandatory Fun, from Robin Thicke parody “Word Crimes” to his version of Lorde’s “Royals” (titled “Foil”).
The daily videos have been premièring not only on YouTube, but major sites like College Humour and now Funny or Die.
So, what’s new from Al?
Friday: Sports Song
“Our guys are fast and strong and brave and your guys… meh, not so much.” With a marching band and some choice lyrics (“You suck”), Weird Al summarises the crazed fanaticism brought on by competing sports teams, with one trying to intimidate and belittle the fans of the other.
Saturday: First World Problems
Ever upset when your latte comes without art? Perhaps you hate the fact that you can’t get a decent WiFi signal in all areas of your house because it is too big? Weird Al knows the feeling. The comedian dons a blond wig and an irritable mood for “First World Problems”, which mock the silly but annoying things that bother people with a decent amount of tech and disposable income.
Sunday: Lame Claim to Fame
Six degrees of separation? What if you bought a toaster from a guy who met Brad Pitt? Does that count? Weird Al name drops celebs and highlights normalcy in this video, which is all glorious stop motion and paper dinosaurs. And yes, there is a nod to the theory about Kevin Bacon.
