Disney tries to convince world on Star Wars plans with seven minute ‘Rebels’ preview

If you’re still fuming at George Lucas for selling Star Wars wholesale to Disney, the seven minute preview it’s done for the new animated series Star Wars Rebels might change your mind. Or it might confirm everything you’ve ever suspected about the move. We don’t know, we can’t read your mind.

The seven minute preview shows what happens in the immediate aftermath of the Empire landing on Lothal and follows a young boy called Ezra.

After playing havoc with some imperial troops, Ezra encounters a mysterious group trying to steal from them and ends up on the run from both.

According to Disney, the series is set between Episodes III and IV of the Star Wars saga, will premiere in October 2014 with a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, and will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.

The full length episode won some serious praise when it was played before a select audience at Comic-Con. That’s a good sign, especially given the anticipointment that’s plagued previous attempts to expand the Star Wars universe. Still, it’ll have to work pretty hard to keep some of the world’s most hardcore fans happy.
