Facebook finally rolls out Privacy Checkup for a universal audience
We’re in the midst of a social media privacy boom, where users of various online platforms are more concerned with their content and shared information than ever before. With this firmly in mind, Facebook has now rolled out its Privacy Checkup feature for all using the desktop site.
The Checkup allows users to review specific posts’ audience, the selection of apps used and the privacy of what Facebook calls “key pieces of information on your profile.”
Paddy Underwood, Product Manager at Facebook continues:
We know people come to Facebook to interact with their friends, not with us. But we know how important it is for everyone to be in control of what they share and who they share it with. And of the people who have started the Checkup to so far, three in four have completed all three steps.
This includes things like changing the audience for their posts or contact information, removing old apps, or updating information in their profile.
Facebook is currently said to be focusing on securing the user experience, giving its nearly 1.3-billion strong population improved control over their desired level of privacy when they require it.
Of course, other additions to the site have bolstered privacy in the past, notably the review posts section, which allows users of tagged images and the like to select which posts they wish to appear on their timelines. It prevented users from being tagged in that rather embarrassing after work soiree.
For those looking for the new addition, the option is available in the Privacy shortcuts section of your profile. Facebook is also suggesting the feature to others who haven’t previously set it up.
