Global Mobile Vision 2014 aims to take Korean tech even more global
If you spend any time at all thinking about Korean mobile tech, chances are the two names that come to mind are Samsung and LG. It makes sense, they’re both companies with a truly global footprint and both have reputations for building quality mobile products.
But surely in a country that’s home to these giants, and also has some of the world’s fastest broadband, there must be other players the world needs to know about? Well, that’s exactly the aim of the 2014 Global Mobile Vision conference, to be held in Seoul in mid September: help promising mobile companies expand “beyond Korea”.
Kakao CEO Sirgoo Lee is set to headline the conference and will focus on the theme of “Connected World, Connected Future” in his address. There will also be a panel featuring Google+, Baidu, Kakao and other major Korean and global companies, focusing on the topic: “SNS/MIM in the connected world”.
This year’s conference also promises expanded opportunities for startups, including additional startup and consulting zones where they can get one-on-one time with experienced players in the field. The “I’m a Global Venture 2014” is meanwhile intended to provide a meeting place for startups and prominent venture incubators from Korea, China, Japan, and Taiwan, and Korea Big Data Society.
Joonghun Kwon from KOTRA IT Business Department said, “By 2013, mobile internet use had already exceeded the cable Internet use, and even vulnerable IT social group, the middle aged, also made a record mobile use. This means that IT the industry will ultimately walk the path to the mobile one.”
“GMV obviously is showing Korea the right direction to head in,” he added. Kwon reckons that with Korea’s strong technological culture, it absolutely poised to set the example for other countries when it comes to fostering a vibrant mobile industry.
