Using cars, a daughter delivers a message to her dad in space
There are many options for getting in touch with your loved ones, ranging from the ancient to the hyper-modern. If they’re in space however, some of those options are still available, but somewhat more limited capacity.
Just because you can make a video call to someone in space, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t occasionally engage in the odd grand gesture.
And that’s exactly what the 13-year-old daughter of one astronaut, in conjunction with Hyundai, decided to do. The Korean car maker teamed up with Stephanie so she could tell her dad, who is at the International Space Station, that she misses him. To enable the dad to see it, the message had to be massive.

The message, “Steph [hearts] U,” was written across the bone-dry expanse of Nevada’s Delamar Dry Lake
The project took place on 18 January and was used to advertise the Hyundai Genesis, and at the same time, connect a daughter with her father. In the process, Hyundai broke the Guinness World Record for “the largest tire track image,” measuring 59 808 480.26 square feet.
Hyundai used 11 Hyundai Genesis and a massive crew. Nasa has not disclosed which astronaut the message was aimed at, although the options seem fairly limited.
