Dropbox for iOS updates with file comments and more
A while ago Dropbox and Microsoft formed a partnership to bolster cross-platform integration, and now this relationships is beginning to bear fruit. In a Dropbox iOS update, the company has added new features, including the likes of file commenting and recent tabs.
The commenting feature allows users to add comments on files via the Dropbox website. Users can gather feedback or respond to discussions even when on the go.
This social media like feature is taken a step further by introducing notifications: “If someone mentions you in a comment or weighs in on a file where you’re already part of the conversation, the app will automatically notify you, so you can stay in the loop and respond from anywhere,” the company writes.
In recent tabs, users have a new home view that shows as a list of files they have used recently, be it viewed, uploaded, renamed, edited on that device or on Dropbox’s official site.

Creating documents — a feature that is only coming in the next few weeks — will allow users the ability to create Microsoft Office docs right from the Dropbox iPhone and iPad apps.
“The Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file you create will be saved into whatever Dropbox folder you were in when you selected ‘Create New File,’ so you’ll be able to access it on any of your other devices or on the web,” the company said.
Dropbox points out that the best part of the new updates is not the features themselves but how these features work together.
“The same features can apply to vacation planning, apartment hunting, or whatever else Dropbox helps you do. It’s all part of our mission to make your life easier, wherever you are, by giving you the tools you need to be productive,” Dropbox says.
