Uber reveals plans for awesome new HQ in San Fransisco
Apple and Facebook are not the only two conglomerates boasting massive plans for their headquarters. Popular cab-hailing company Uber is building itself a new house in its original home of San Fransisco, 420 000 square feet of home sweet home.
A healthy US$1.5-2-billion injection-goal is what Uber is planning for their next round of funding, eyeing a US$50-billion evaluation. It looks like the sky is the limit for their new Uber-Cave.
The cab-sharing service is looking at moving onto 1515 Third Street and 1455 Third Street, two buildings right opposite each other and connecting three bridges. Yes, three.
The building at number 1515 will be a mere six stories and the one at 1455 will install acrophobia at the top on the 11th floor. The plans serve as a type of icebreaker for Uber, while they try to recruit small businesses to hop onboard the Uber express.
As Quartz reported, “If all goes according to plan, thousands of its employees will work in this new headquarters building in San Francisco by late 2017 or early 2018.” The site is located in the city’s Mission Bay, an area that the city has been building up as a biotech hub, but has lately attracted a slew of technology and other high-profile companies.
Looking at the design of the building, one gets a sense that Uber is as transparent as it’s mostly made out of glass, yet so solid with the inner resemblance of a heart.
Deigned by SHoP Architects based in New York, the Uber castles will have their own day care centre that spills into the opposite park that Uber decided to revamp for accommodation. How thoughtful.
