You can now comment on Facebook posts by uploading videos

It seems that the days of commenting on a Facebook post using a simple string of text is now a bygone era. After Facebook added support for image commenting in 2013, and its recent Reactions additions too, the company is now adding support for video comments.

“Videos in Comments are now available worldwide! You can upload them as replies to posts by people and pages, as well as within groups and events,” remarks Facebook’s Bob Baldwin in a blog post.

To add a video, users simply tap the video icon alongside the comment field. “Uploading” is the key word there. Annoyingly, at least on the web, it seems that Facebook only recognises videos on your computer.

Links from YouTube, Vimeo and other services, when pasted within the comments section, also expands as a traditional link.

The move is largely thanks to Facebook’s drive to become a content and news hub as well as a social media site. The company’s plans suggests that video — especially 360 degree video — will become a huge market, for both consumer consumption and marketing in the future.

Baldwin notes that its now supported on desktop (the web), iOS and Android apps. Luckily, the feature is available worldwide, so if you happen to remember your Facebook password, you can go ahead and begin commenting right now.
