After a failed military takeoever in Turkey that began late Friday led to an estimated 265 deaths, 1440 injured, around 2800 arrested military members and 2745 detained judges and prosecutors, the country swiftly moved to throttle internet traffic to social media networks.

Springbok and Sharks full-back JP Petersen played his last game at the Durban rugby outfit’s King’s Park Stadium this weekend in a 40-29 victory over the Sunwolves. The Sharks also booked their place in the final stage of the Super Rugby competition with the win. Petersen has played over 160 matches for the Sharks.

The Republican Party’s presumptive nominee Donald Trump announced his running mate on Saturday as Indiana governor Mike Pence, 57. You can watch the full speech on NBC’s Facebook page.

Manx and Team Dimension Data cyclist Mark Cavendish won his fourth stage in the Tour de France this year on Satuday’s stage 14. It’s his 30th win in the Tour in total, and the fifth win for the South African-based team.

South African sprinter Caster Semenya set a new event record at Monaco’s IAAF Diamond League meeting this weekend, running the 800m race in just 1:55.33. Sprinter Wayde van Niekerk also won gold in the 400m event.

The Taylor Swift/Kanye West drama boiled over Sunday after Kim Kardashian posted a Snapchat video documenting West’s phone call with Swift prior to releasing his song Famous. In the video, Swift seemingly agrees to the lyrics in the song. After the Snapchat was published, Swift released a statement on Twitter and Instagram, while other celebrities, like Selena Gomez, also chimed in.

#KimExposedTaylorParty is currently trending worldwide on Twitter.

Yet another shooting shook Baton Rouge this weekend, when an ex-Marine killed two police officers. The shooter, identified as Gavin Long, owned the Twitter account ConvosWithCosmo, in which the author documented his contempt for disrespect, according to the WSJ. This was the gunman’s tweet Saturday, prior to the incident.

Henrik Stenson won The 145th Open Championship in Scotland this weekend, after a nail-biting duel with American Phil Mickelson. Stenson’s overall score of 264 set a new record for any major golf championship. Mickelson finished three shots behind.
