South African box office chart: Ice Age 5 faces mass extinction
Proving that reviews aren’t the be all end all, Suicide Squad is still the top pick for South African movie audiences, but Ice Age clearly isn’t. What movies trailed in its wake over the past weekend (19 to 21 August 2016)?
There were a lot of drops this past weekend as new titles entered the fray. Jason Bourne, the movie that tries to show Matt Damon still has a career, only dropped a single space from fourth position.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates had to move over in second position for Bad Moms, while Pete’s Dragon clutched onto that third place position.
Ice Age 5: Collision Course is smashing downwards in the box office
The reboot of the classic Ghostbusters franchise continues to plummet as it drops from fifth to eighth place. It may just have to bust itself in the SA box office afterlife.
The family-friendly Ice Age 5: Collision Course is smashing downwards in the box office and will soon land with the thud. This over-played franchise dropped three positions, down from six, and may even vanish from next week’s ratings.
And, finally, Florence Foster Jenkins had this weekend’s biggest tumble, dropping from seventh to tenth position. Maybe no one likes Hugh Grant and Meryl Streep anymore?
Here are ten most-watched movies in South Africa this past weekend:
- Suicide Squad (including 3D and Imax)
- Bad Moms
- Pete’s Dragon (including 3D)
- Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates
- Jason Bourne
- Nerve
- Kubo & the Two Strings
- Ghostbusters (including 3D, Imax, and 4DX)
- Ice Age 5: Collision Course (including 3D and Imax)
- Florence Foster Jenkins
