Black Friday: Takealot disabled mobile website due to load
Between the photos of chaos at Checkers and websites going down, it’s clear that retailers have been overwhelmed on Black Friday. In fact, Takealot announced earlier today that it disabled its mobile website to cope with the massive spike in visitors.
“We planned for the expected increase in site visits over our Blue Dot Sale weekend, but the interest in the sale has far exceeded our expectations,” the company wrote in a Facebook post.
“In order to accommodate more visitors on our website and app we’ll be deactivating the mobile site until further notice. We’re sorry for any frustration caused, our engineering team is doing everything they can to get things running smoothly again,” it explained.
Takealot anticipated many visitors, but it still underestimated just how many people would visit the website
Some of the more notable items on sale by the online retailer included Skylanders Trap Team on Xbox One for R449, a 60-inch 4K TV for R18 899 and a Lumia 650 for R2299.
At the time of writing, the mobile website was back in operation again, but don’t be surprised if it goes down a few more times throughout the day.
