South Africa’s box office chart: Fifty Shades Darker likes it on top
Ignoring the film critics, South Africans embraced their sexy side this weekend and Fifty Shades Darker proved number one in their hearts and other body parts. But how did the other films fare after its debut at the top this weekend? (10 to 12 February 2017)
The Lego Batman Movie debuted at number three, unable to pass last week’s number one xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. La La Land dropped down two places to fifth, and the musical in which people can actually sing Sing tragically saw itself tumbling down four spots to eighth.
Denial and Rings debuted at ninth and tenth respectively, kicking out Why Him? and Ballerina.
Failing martian hearts proved too prudish for the South African public this Valentine’s weekend, and The Space Between Us was unable to compete with the new entries. It dropped right off the charts after peaking at tenth last week.
Here are ten most-watched movies in South Africa this past weekend:
- Fifty Shades Darker
- xXx: The Return of Xander Cage (incl 3D, Imax & 4DX)
- The Lego Batman Movie (incl 3D)
- Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (incl 3D and Imax)
- La La Land
- Collateral Beauty
- Lion
- Sing (incl 3D)
