Kenny Kunene unfazed by Twitter criticism of shooting

Businessman Kenny Kunene found himself the target of online scorn this past week after rumours that he survived being shot at by 21 bullets — but he’s told News24 that he doesn’t let the criticism get to him.

Kunene says he was travelling Tuesday evening in a BMW when he was approached by four men who opened fire on him and the woman he was with. The two quickly drove away, and neither were harmed.

The car was allegedly hit by five bullets, while some reports claimed 21 were fired.

Since news of the miraculous escape, Twitter has been firing at shots at Kunene who was still trending in third two days after the incident.

Kunene told News24 that he was not bothered by the intense backlash.

Kenny Kunene: ‘Whatever people are saying, you can’t be loved by everyone’

“Maybe they wanted me to die,” he said, “but whatever people are saying, you can’t be loved by everyone.”

Kunene is no stranger to public scorn. Back in the early 2000s, he was jailed for his role in a Ponzi scheme in the Free State. After being released and reestablishing himself as a businessman, news broke that his 2010 birthday party included the opportunity to eat sushi off naked women.

Some were impressed, many were outraged.

Not ones to miss an opportunity to drag two birds with one stone, Twitter users also brought the under-performing Bafana Bafana into the mix.

A police investigation is underway.
