Meet Instagram’s most-followed pets

Beyoncé may have stolen the show this year with her pregnancy announcement on Instagram, but did she dress up as Eleven and take an awkward prom photo with the Stranger Things cast?

Of course she didn’t — but Doug the Pug did, and that’s why he’s one of Instagram’s most-followed pets.

And you best believe he’s in good (boy) company. So without further ado, here are the most-followed pets on Instagram. Brace yourselves.

10. Loki (1.6 million+ followers)

Momma nature rolled out the green carpet for me.

Loki’s is “husky/arctic wolf/malamute mix“, and he loves the outdoors.

Hailing from Denver, Colorado, five-year-old Loki and his owner, Kelly Lund, often travel around the US with Lund’s partner Abby and a second dog Bailey in tow.

Loki’s Instagram account is filled with beautiful shots of the husky mix wandering the wild and enjoying life outdoors. Basically, just living his best life.

9. Lil Bub (1.7 million+ followers)

A post shared by Lil BUB (@iamlilbub) on

Lil Bub has been an internet sensation for a while (she has her own Wikipedia page), but here’s the lowdown in case you were (very sadly) missing out.

Bub was born as the runt of her litter to a feral mother, leaving her with a bunch of genetic mutations, a form of feline dwarfism and a difficulty getting adopted. Until Mike Bridavsky found her. He instantly fell in love, and Lil Bub the Star was born.

Now, Bub has her own Instagram, YouTubeFacebook, and Twitter, and a whole host of fans.

8. Juniper and Fig (1.7 million+ followers)

Juniper used to be the only fox in her family — then Fig came along. Now, the two share plays, cuddles, and a family comprised of dogs, cats, small possums called sugar gliders, and a hairy tarantula.

Juniper and Fig’s account aren’t only aimed at showing how cute they can be, though; their owner uses her platform to speak out about how hard it is to care for foxes, including their terrible scents, frequent bad behaviour, and the lack of a recognised rabies vaccine for the species.

Which is probably why it’s so much more fun to follow them on Instagram.

7. Tuna (1.9 million+ followers)

Tuna is a seven-year-old “chiweenie” (Chihuahua and Daschund mix) with an exaggerated overbite that makes him look constantly concerned and too freaking adorable.

The little guy’s Instagram is filled with random pics of him lounging around and some wonderful ones of him dressing up — sometimes as Yoda, sometimes as Sia, every time fabulous.

6. Marnie (2.1 million+ followers)

A post shared by Marnie The Dog (@marniethedog) on

Marnie the Shih Tzu was 11 years old when she found her forever home. Now, she’s a 16-year-old happy-go-lucky pup living life to the fullest.

Marnie’s Instagram is filled with her signature head-tilted-tongue-out pose, and sometimes she’s even spotted with celebrity fans like Jimmy Kimmel and Jack Black.

5. Grumpy Cat (2.4 million+ followers)

A post shared by Grumpy Cat (@realgrumpycat) on

Like Lil Bub, if you’re on the internet then you know who Grumpy Cat is.

But here’s a recap: Grumpy Cat’s real name is Tardar Sauce, and her unamused expression is caused by an overbite and feline dwarfism. She rose to fame after the brother of her owner, Tabatha, posted an image of her to Reddit way back in 2012.

Tardar Sauce quickly garnered internet stardom — and even landed herself a 2014 movie deal for Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, in which she is voiced by none other than Aubrey Plaza.

4. Maru (2.6 million+ followers)

Maru is a Shiba Inu living in Japan with his owner Shinjiro Ono — and is the only pet on this list not hailing from the US.

He travels with several backpacks, makes friends with other kinds of animals, and is always striking one hell of a pose.

3. Doug the Pug (3 million+ followers)

A post shared by Doug The Pug (@itsdougthepug) on

Doug is perhaps best known for his short videos that see him recreating pieces of art like Stranger Things and Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” music video.

But when he’s not taking Hollywood by storm, Doug is living a regular, pizza-loving life with his mom who quit her job at a record label to manage him. Adorable.

2. Nala (3.5 million+ followers)

Did you know that when I was a baby, I had a black nose! 😆

A post shared by nala_cat™ (@nala_cat) on

Nala, a seven-year-old Siamese and Tabby mix, is Instagram’s most-followed cat.

Her Instagram mostly consists of intense close-ups highlighting her baby blues, but it can also feature box-playing, sassy poses, and her best impression of Grumpy Cat.

Like a few of the others on this list, Nala also has a YouTube channel.

1. Jiff (7.2 million+ followers)

💗

A post shared by jiffpom 🐻 (@jiffpom) on

Jiff is a Pomeranian ball of fluff with nearly as many followers as US President Donald Trump.

Jiff gained popularity back in 2012 when he broke records for running 10m on his hind legs in just 6.56 seconds, and on his front legs for 7.76 seconds. Now he’s landed acting gigs, and jets around the world meeting celebs.

Jiff’s Instagram is very clean and heavily-curated — but so is his fur, so I guess they match.
