Cape Town and surrounding areas may be in for a wet Tuesday, according to the South African Weather Service.

The organisation issued a “weather watch” on Monday warning residents of bountiful, heavy rainfall between 12pm and 11pm on 4 June 2019. This is due to a cold front that’s expected to brush past the region on Tuesday.

“Heavy rain- expected over the mountainous regions of the Overberg, southern Cape Winelands and the Cape Metropole on Tuesday,” it wrote in a tweet.

The watch is both a welcome and potentially troublesome announcement. While Cape Town’s dam levels languish around the 46% full mark, up to 50mm of rain could fall in the Cape mountains. Heavy rain however also presents flooding risks to low-lying and vulnerable areas.

Earlier on Monday, SAWS announced that the weather system was located just south-west of the country.
