Ethiopia’s been without internet for more than 48 hours
Over the weekend, a report from NetBlocks revealed that Ethiopia’s internet was shut show across country after its army leader was shot dead amid a regional coup attempt.
“Internet cut across #Ethiopia amid reports of coup attempt targeting #Amhara regional state government; nationwide connectivity currently now at 10%,” the company tweeted.

A follow up report on Monday confirmed that the country is still on lock down, with NetBlocks’ data showing that at least 97% of the country remained offline.
“NetBlocks researchers have attempted to geolocate some of the few remaining connections, finding that they may belong to technical staff or officials in the capital, as well as touristic locations,” NetBlocks revealed.
It’s not clear when Ethiopia’s internet connectivity will be restored.
