Showmax rolls out new sports streaming feature to all customers
Showmax on Friday announced that it has expanded its new live sport streaming feature to all customers, after testing was confirmed earlier this week.
“Showmax is branching out and adding both pre-recorded and live sport content to its current line-up of TV series, movies and kids’ shows. The move into live streaming is a first for Showmax in Africa,” the company said in a press release.
With the added content, Showmax still costs subscribers R99 a month.
“The new sports content includes live streaming of South Africa’s games in the ICC Cricket World Cup and SuperSport Rugby Challenge matches,” Showmax further noted.
Sport on Showmax also features highlights and several magazine shows, including titles such as The Final Whistle, Showcase and The Dan Nicholl Show.
The feature is exclusive to Showmax in South Africa, but currently unavailable on XBox, PlayStation, Apple TV and a number of smart TVs.
“We’re preparing for a future when uncapped data is affordable to all in Africa and video on demand becomes the norm,” said CEO of MultiChoice’s Connected Video division, Niclas Ekdahl.
