Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas on Monday, wreaking havoc on the island and its people with wind gusts of over 320 km/h, heavy rain and storm surges.
Images and videos of the storm’s destruction trended on Twitter throughout the morning as users shared the footage with messages of hope and prayer.

According to the National Hurricane Centre, Hurricane Dorian will continue to cause “extreme destruction” throughout Monday and could possibly hit parts of United States later this week.
“Heavy rains capable of producing life-threatening flash floods, are expected over northern portions of the Bahamas and coastal sections of the Southeast and lower Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States into Friday,” the organisation tweeted.

Last week, Hurricane Dorian made its way through Puerto Rico as a Category 1 storm and evolved into a Category 5 storm by Sunday.
Florida, Georgia and the North and South Carolinas could face the brunt of the storm next.
