Blue Route Mall to get Cape Town’s second IMAX movie theatre

Blue Route Mall in Tokai, Cape Town, will launch the city’s second IMAX theatre in December, Ster Kinekor announced on Tuesday.

At present, Cape Gate in Kraaifontein has the city’s only IMAX theatre. The V&A Waterfront used to have the only IMAX, but was shut down earlier this decade.

Blue Route Mall will join seven other shopping malls in South Africa that features the movie technology, which offers viewers “clarity, sound and immersion”.

“Superbly crisp, high resolution imagery makes for unparalleled viewing, while heart-pounding audio captures every sound from a faint whisper to rumbling thunder and beyond,” Ster Kinekor said in a press release.

The theatre’s first screening will be on 6 December, with Frozen 2. Jumanji: The Next Level will release on 12 December.
