Watch 2013’s most dramatic moments of citizen journalism [video]
This is seriously intense. The Human Rights YouTube channel has released a video, detailing some of the most powerful pieces of citizen journalism broadcast in 2013.
The video features scenes from around the globe of protest, human rights abuses and police brutality and, no matter how much news you’ve watched over the past year or so, it will affect you.
The clips featured in the video, covering events such as the protests that swept across Turkey in May and June and the violent clashes between pro and anti-Muslim Brotherhood protesters in Egypt are all verified by Storyful’s Open Newsroom project, a group of journalists from around the world who focus on social media.
Witness, the organisation behind the channel, does however caution that the videos are sometimes stripped of their metadata making verification more difficult.
