Flappy Bird’s creator is releasing a new game, but says the bird is coming back

If you missed the opportunity to bond with the face-planting pixelated bird the first time round, you may not have to trawl eBay in search of a phone that comes with the game preloaded. Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen has confirmed he’s bringing back his smash hit game — but not yet.

Nguyen, who pulled his game from the app stores after the intense media attention and complaints about its addictive nature started to ruin his “simple life”, shared the news on Twitter yesterday. He’s been quiet on social media for almost a month, but broke his silence after the publishing of a Rolling Stone article on his crazy ride to fame, which hinted the bird may make a comeback.

In a reply to a question on Twitter, Nguyen said that he would return the arcade-style mobile game to the app stores in the future:

In the mean time, the Vietnamese developer is working on a number of other titles, including the intriguingly named “Kitty Jetpack” (there is already a Flappy Bird clone called “Jetpack Kitty” that popped up after the Rolling Stone article). Nguyen’s next game to hit touch screens around the world is an action chess game called “Checkonaut”, which he said would be released “soon”.
