This Heritage Day, Uber offers Soweto Gospel Choir on-demand
This is so awesome. For a limited time only, the popular taxi on-demand service, Uber, is enabling South Africans to request some uniquely local performances to their doorsteps.
Uber is known for spicing up holidays and other special occasions every now and then. To mark South Africa’s Heritage Day on 24 September, the popular ridesharing service is giving people the ability to request in-house performances similar to how they would a taxi.
For those wanting more than your casual braai, you can use the Uber app to request a soulful performance by the award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir in Johannesburg, a 14-person performance by the colourful Cape Town Minstrels; or a vibey performance by the energy-filled Young Mbazo, grandchildren of Lady Smith Black Mbazo in Durban.
Unfortunately, the service is only limited to Uber users in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg for 15 minutes each performance.
Here’s how it works:
- Open the Uber app on 24 September 2014 and you will see a South African flag icon
- Toggle over to the South African flag
- Set your pickup location and tap the “Request uberMZANSI” button to request your 15 minute on-demand performance
Previously, we’ve seen Uber bring on-demand ice-cream to South Africans and the world over. Some other popular examples of the service keeping it fresh include roses on Valentines Day and even cats, — for the never-ending need for something cute and cuddly.
Uber also recently announced uberXL in Cape Town — a low-cost Uber option to connect you with a six seater vehicle.
