Here’s a preview of what the upcoming CliffCentral streaming app will feature
South African online radio station CliffCentral is set to launch a smartphone app which will allow people to listen to the station live, send messages to the CliffCentral team, and save podcasts among other things.
Memeburn understands that the app will launch within the next week and is designed with the high cost of South African mobile data in mind.
Users will, for instance, be able to stream at low, medium, and high resolutions. They’ll also be able to download podcasts for offline listening.

Headed by former 5fm DJ Gareth Cliff, CliffCentral launched in early 2014, with its mobile offering coming primarily through WeChat integration. At the time, both brands were looking far rapid uptake in adoption so the deal was designed to be mutually beneficial. In a further bid to increase uptake, anyone using WeChat to listen to CliffCentral on MTN was able to so for free.
It seemed to work too. The station has more than 137 000 subscribers on WeChat. The CliffCentral site itself sees 3-million monthly page views, and its podcasts have been downloaded some 4-million times.
