First Vumatel fibre home goes live in Cape Town

Fibre provider Vumatel has been on a roll in recent months, as it teamed up with Telkom and Standard Bank threw its weight behind the company.

Now, the company has marked another milestone with its first home fibre connection in Cape Town going live, being situated in the Tamboerskloof area.

“TBK Watch is very excited to be Vumatel’s first community to get connected in Cape Town. We have been working together with Vumatel for the past six months to plan and get the community ready for the rollout, and now we are live. The rest of the community can’t wait to get connected,” said the TBK Watch group, which represents the Tamboerskloof community.

The company added that two other community groups in the City Bowl have given the green light for Vumatel fibre.

“Residents in the communities of the Oranjezicht Higgovale Neighbourhood Watch (OH) and Devil’s Peak Vredehoek Neighbourhood Watch (DPV) will get connected to Vumatel’s open-access fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network before the end of the year,” the service provider said in a statement emailed to Memeburn.

The fibre provider said that networks in these communities will have top speeds of 1Gbps and residents will be able to choose from multiple data providers.

“Ten thousand homes around the City Bowl and all schools within the roll-out area will have access to Vumatel’s network,” the fibre provider said, while not giving a timeline for access.

The company already has a significant (for fibre) presence in the Johannesburg area, with 30 suburbs connected or in the process of being connected.

“The more people who show their interest in an area, the faster Vuma will come,” the provider explained.
