Cyclone Enawo in pictures: Madagascar laced by strongest storm in a decade [update]
Update, 9 March, 10.24am SAST: More images are surfacing on social media from Madagascar in the wake of Cyclone Enawo’s landfall.
According to reports, at least five people have died as a result of the storm.

A new unnamed tropical cyclone, dubbed 11S, is currently gaining strength in the central Indian Ocean, and is tracking towards Reunion. There’s no reports that the storm will make landfall in Madagascar.
Original article: Indian Ocean cyclones are seemingly enjoying the east coast of Africa this year. After Cyclone Dineo affected much of Mozambique, northern South Africa and Zimbabwe, the next named storm dubbed Enawo is currently barrelling its way down the length of Madagascar.
At its strongest point, Cyclone Enawo boasted maximum sustained winds in excess of 230km/h. After making landfall on Tuesday around 10am SAST, the storm became the most potent to strike the island in 13 years.
Enawo is weakening rapidly, but its track down the spine of the island nation spells the possibility of flooding. This for a country that’s currently dealing with a drought.
Disaster management services and the likes of UNICEF Madagascar took to Twitter, using the hashtag #Enawo to alert users in Madagascar prior to landfall, and across the world about developments.

Facebook and YouTube were also used by Madagascans to publish videos and images of Enawo’s rage.
The storm is currently positioned over northern Madagascar, and will move south to south-south-east in the coming hours. It’s currently catergorised as “Overland Depression Ex-Enawo”.
