Spotify wants users to create and upload their own podcasts, new feature suggests
Spotify is reportedly testing an in-app button that will let users create podcasts via Anchor, The Verge revealed on Wednesday.
The feature, which was first spotted by code-leaker Jane Wong, will direct Spotify users to Anchor, a podcast creation platform, where they can create their own podcasts for free.
Earlier this year, Spotify bought Anchor in an attempt to expand its original podcast content.
According to Wong’s screenshots of Spotify’s promotional ads for the feature, users will be able to post their podcasts on Spotify and “all other major listening platforms”.
The feature could encourage Spotify users, which grew to 232-million in the last quarter, to create their own podcasts by giving them a simple way to access a creation tools.
Though Spotify confirmed that the in-app tool was indeed being tested, it further noted that not all its tests become new features. This suggests that the podcast-creating feature may never roll out to more users.
