Google’s staff thinks the company might be spying on them

Google employees are accusing the company of spying on its staff, a report by Bloomberg on Thursday revealed.

Several employees have claimed that a new extension in the company’s Chrome browser was designed to detect calendar events with large numbers of attendees.

According to the report, gatherings of 100 or more people are flagged by the company in an attempt to identify possible protests or strike action.

In a statement to Bloomberg however, Google’s parent company Alphabet rejected the accusations.

“This is a pop-up reminder that asks people to be mindful before auto-adding a meeting to the calendars of large numbers of employees,” the company reportedly said.

The extension, however, cannot be removed by employees, which suggests that its true purpose is to monitor Google’s own staff.
