Samsung launches an upgraded Galaxy Tab

Samsung’s new version of its tablet computer with a larger screen of 10.1 inches has been launched. Four months after its first Galaxy Tab, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 uses the latest version of Google’s Android operating system.

It weighs 599 grams and is just 10.9 millimetres thick. JK Shin, who heads Samsung’s mobile division, says they focused on “screen, speed and content” while developing the device.

Samsung says the new tablet computer has more processing power than the original Galaxy Tab. It also has a bigger screen than the previous version. The company is targeting the Galaxy Tab 10.1 for people who use more multimedia, games, e-books and social media on average than those who purchased the previous version.

With Samsung being the second largest mobile phone company after Nokia, it will sell the new tablet computer through Vodafone in about 20 countries.

Users who want to watch streaming video on their tablet will be able to access the internet using Wi-Fi or HSPA+ (High-Speed Packet Access) at up to 21M bits per second. For users to take full advantage of that speed, their mobile operator may first have to upgrade their network. The device includes a back camera with an 8-megapixel resolution and LED flash and the front camera which has a 2-megapixel resolution.

The South Korean company also unveiled its latest smartphone on the eve of the opening of the mobile phone industry’s annual conference, Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
