Geek out with the Portal Gun replica
Are you ready? It’s testing time. ThinkGeek, itself a paradise of unusual gadgets, brings us an exact replica of the Portal Gun. You remember Portal, right? GlaDOS, Chell, Wheatley, the Companion Cube, god this was an amazing game. The Portal Gun, the standout technology and centre point of these titles is now yours, for the wallet-straining price of US$150.
The Portal Gun replica is just that, a 1:1 clone of the space and time defying portal creator. Designed by NECA, the company behind most high-quality toys and replicas, the Portal Gun is limited to a mere 5 000 pieces so expect the US$150 price to skyrocket once these babies hit eBay.
It’s a gadget that gamers lust for. Purposeless, but pretty and weighty enough to replicate how an actual Portal Gun would feel in this harsh, portal-free world of ours. Thankfully, it’s packed with features.
The Portal Gun has corresponding blue and orange LED lights, this replicates the portal in/out status in the game. For each colour, there is also a corresponding sound effect. The replica Portal Gun is activated with a trigger which “fires a portal” or squirts out a sound effect, whatever floats your boat. The claws can be posed and the Portal Gun is fairly hefty, therefore does not require a vanity stand.
It’s a big product. Its 8.5cm wide and 30cm long, no story on the weight, but we’re guessing it’s under a kilo. Finally, the Portal Gun replica requires 3 C batteries (the chunky ones) if you’re keen on the gun making pretty noises.
Want to create a match made in heaven? Pair the Portal Gun with the Companion Cube Plush. Feel your fingers curl as you geek-out into a spiralling infinity of bliss.
