Apple takes charge with 3D maps for iOS 6
Google Maps for iOS has long been the staple of iDevice users, but Apple’s had enough. With iOS 6, Apple’s going to change the game and include its own 3D mapping system, leaving Google Maps to wallow in the dust.
Thanks to these sources, we now know that Apple’s iOS 6 3D mapping app will rock a new interface, with a silver navigation bar. Fancy. Does this mean that iOS 6 will have a refined, silver interface over the pale blue look of iOS 5? Who knows. Well, Apple does.
Apple’s new software from C3 Technologies will power the 3D mode, which is accessed via a “locate me” button in the left corner of the app. Switching in and out of 3D mode is a simple affair. Users simply tap the 3D icon to switch between views. iOS 6 will hopefully be a major UI shakeup for Apple, and when the iPhone 5 launches, the new OS is bound to surprise us in look and feel.
