LG says screw you to Retina Display, unleashes 440PPI, 1080p screen
iPhone 4S, pshhh whatever. It looks like LG is injecting steroids into its new 5-inch Full HD LCD smartphone display.
The South Korean manufacturer says that, “this allows smartphone users to view Full HD content in the same quality as on TVs and monitors, LG Display and its new panel significantly advances the cloud computing experience widely considered the next major internet trend.” Whatever, it’s shit-hot, here’s the deets:
The 440PPI screen is based on AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) tech which maxes out with a 1920×1080 display. The panel is also “1.3 times more advanced in ppi than the preceding 4.5″ panel at 329ppi and 1280×720.”
Just to put things in perspective — The iPhone 4S is 330PPI. Sony’s Xperia S, 342PPI. The new LG display, 440PPI. Lord have mercy! The screen’s launch date is set for later this year. Let’s see what LG can bring to the game.
The press release states that we’ll no longer be able to distinguish between individual pixels. The 440PPI display will also be “ideal for outdoor settings”. That’s one up on Apple at least.
