iPad and iPhone concepts that (thankfully) never saw the light of day
Understandably, Apple messed around with many different designs before it settled on the sleek products that the world now loves. Here are some iPad and iPhone concepts that have surfaced.
Imagine the iPad came out with a kick stand. And not anything slim like Microsoft’s Surface, but a long cylindrical arm that swiveled on a ball joint. Gross. Another shows what looks like an enormous 4-pin dock at the back.
Many of the iPad concepts featured iPod labeling at the back, possibly showing that Apple wanted to use the iPad as an extension of the iPod family. Yet another photo shows a concept with handles on either side.
There are also iPhone concepts of various shapes and sizes. One that was a prototype for the 4 looks quite similar, but is longer and has a smaller screen. The extension might have been for a dedicated touch keyboard, but who knows? There’s also an eight-sided one and one that looks like a Nokia Lumia 900, except ugly.
Just be thankful that Apple had some sense and design prowess, because if it released any of these, it wouldn’t have nearly the following it has today.
