iPad mini sets Nexus 7 in its sights
Apple is never one to be outdone. Kindle’s Fire and now Google’s Nexus 7 are looking at taking a chunk out of the already Apple dominated market, and the Cupertino-based tech giant is having none of this.
The rumor mill is generating mass quantities of iPad mini talk at the moment. Apparently it’s going to be between 7 and 8 inches, it will be aimed directly at the influx of new Windows powered tablets. More specific rumors say that Apple is testing a 7.85 inch device. It seems like it want to up the game a bit. A 7-inch tablet is just not big enough it seems.
The biggest competition will definitely come in Kindle and Nexus forms. The Kindle Fire set the benchmark for 7-inch tablet up to now, but with the Nexus 7’s debut, Amazon really has its work cut out.
The iPad mini will probably fill the premium position of the 7 inch tablet market; thought to cost around US$249-299. It most likely won’t come with a retina display to keep pricing competitive. What it will need, though, is a quad-core processor. Otherwise the Nexus 7 will make it look silly.
