Raspberry Pi powered glasses take on Google’s best efforts
Not everyone is willing to wait for Google to release Glass, so Will Powell has taken the initiative and built his own.
The glasses are powered by two Raspberry Pis and are based on a Vuzix Star 1200 augmented reality system.
While the Raspberry is very cheap — at a reasonable £25 — the Vuzix 1200 glasses are a bit more: US$5 000. That is a hell of a lot, but seeing these as a prototype, it’s possible that Raspberry Pi or another company could produce something along the same lines as Google, and possibly for cheaper than its US$1 500 asking price.
Will Powell has made several videos testing his new glasses out in different applications. Watch as his new device directly translates Spanish for him in a conversation.
