Sony Xperia Tablet leaked
Sony’s newest excursion into the tablet world has been leaked. German tech website Modiflip has revealed images of a new tablet that features a Microsoft Surface-esque keyboard arrangement.
Named Xperia Sony Tablet, the slides show plenty of the potential specifications of the tablet, but there is one aspect that stands out. That is the Microsoft Surface-like keyboard that attaches onto it. Instead of attaching to the bottom, it wraps around the tablet, essentially covering the whole thing, and when in use folds nicely into a stand.
Other specs include a Tegra 3 processor running Android 4.0, 3G, 6000mAh battery, making it good for 10 hours use, and like the previous Sony tablet, it will have an aluminum shell. The shell will be 8.8mm, which is apparently 42% thinner than before.
The screen is said to be 9.4-inches with a resolution of 1280×800, which is the same as the previous model. That means it’s just over half the iPad’s Retina Display. So, not the leader there, then. The cameras have upgraded though, to 8MP for the back and 1MP for the front, putting it ahead of the iPad.
Included in the slides are prospective prices of the various models as well as accessories. The prices are US$449 for the 16GB, US$549 for the 32GB and US$649 for the 64GB. So basically undercutting the iPad by US$50 at every level. There are many stands and cases, as well as docks. The amount of accessories suggests that Sony is really going all in against the iPad. Sony’s going to have to think hard about the screen resolution to compete seriously.
