Toshiba Canvio Personal Cloud allows offline cloud storage
Cloud storage is supposed to be an online, always-accessible form of data storage that requires no personal hardware. Toshiba, though, thinks that it might be a good idea to indeed have an offline storage place for all your cloud data called the Canvio Personal Cloud. This is a bit of a oxymoron, no?
It’s not that bad of an idea, actually, but it does defeat the point entirely. It’s for people that want to be able to access their cloud data offline, which sounds reasonable. The Cavio starts at US$219.99 for the 2TB version and goes to US$249.99 for the 3TB. It can be accessed by PC, Android, DLNA or iOS devices.
Not everyone is always connected to the internet. But then just get a normal hard drive and keep a copy of all your data on it and a copy on the cloud. That seems like the best solution. Personal Cloud? It’s called a portable hard drive. It is useful as an all around media hub for home, though, that everyone regardless of operating system, can access.
