Ubuntu 12.10 — now with Photo Lens for offline and online imaging madness

With the release of Ubuntu 12.04, the world greedily lapped up Lenses for content such as video, music and apps. What didn’t come to the party was a lens for photos though. Ubuntu 12.10 changes this with a lens committed to photos, both stored offline and online. Rejoice. Photo Lens is a default feature of Ubuntu 12.10, just so you know.

The new lens, imaginatively called “Photo Lens” sucks in images from online accounts such as Imugr, Facebook and Flickr, as well as offline pictures stored on a local drive. It’s a big deal, and now from the desktop users can find not only their photos, but images from their online buddies. We can feel Apple and Microsoft readying to copy this feature. Photo Lens also integrates into the new Unity Preview, a dandy feature that displays additional actions and information for applicable content. We’ll test it out and let you know the results.
