Win8 StartButton offers Windows 8 users a sense of nostalgia
Win8 StartButton is a free app that, as the name would indicate, creates a Windows 7 start button in the left-hand corner of the screen. The developers of this throwback interface have also included a few nifty enhancements.
Features include the ability to select the old desktop display to appear after startup. Users can also choose the display style, with Classic Windows, Aero and Windows 7 all available. When users click on the new start button, the familiar two pane menu system pops up, with the standard documents, pictures and computer folders all available for instant access.
The download also gives users access to Media Player Classic and Torch Browser, a “chromium based browser with built-in torrent manager, share button and video grabber”.
This is not a dead-end app however, as users will be able to toggle between the new Windows 8 Live Tile display and old Desktop display. This app makes perfect sense as the radical redesign of Windows 8 might take some time for users to adjust to.
Win8 StartButton looks to offer a little rest from the new touch-centric user interface, and possibly helping to ease consumers into the new era of Windows OS.
