The Find 5, Oppo’s impressively specced flagship smartphone
Chinese manufacturer Oppo has just unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Find 5, which as the name would suggest comes fitted with a 5-inch 1080p display encased within a 8.8 mm thin body. This is the exact same display that users will find on the HTC J Butterfly, an Android smartphone exclusive to Japan. The Find 5 also boasts a couple more high-end specs to keep users interested.
The Find 5 is set to run Android 4.1.2 Jellybean supported by Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor and 2GB RAM. It is powered by a 2500mAh battery that should deliver a solid days usage. The Find 5 also features a 13MP camera that captures HDR quality images and video. Oppo has also integrated the Find 5’s NFC functionality with social media, as the smartphone is able to pick up in-range Sina Weibo users (the equivalent of Facebook and Twitter having a Chinese social media baby).
Although the Find 5 scores high in a lot of areas, there is one aspect that’ll cause major concern. It lacks a microSD expandable storage slot. Which is further exacerbated by the Find 5″s standard 16MB storage capacity. We’re still unsure what effect the hi-res display will have on memory consumption, but it would seem safer to have the space for extra storage, than none at all. The Oppo Find 5 is set to retail for US$480, but remains an East Asian exclusive release.
This stunning smartphone looks primed to do well in its native market, but we can’t help but shake the feeling that the lack of storage expansion would hurt it, if released globally.
