Samsung Premiere 2013: Galaxy NX, ATIV Q and more
From London at the Samsung Premiere 2013 event, the Samsung giant announced a breezy new line up of Galaxy and ATIV devices that are thinner, lighter and more Samsung-y than before. The updated and new products are all interesting additions to a pretty desirable brand to have in your hand-woven skinny jeans. Tablets, phones and laptops, here’s what The Samsung Premiere 2013 event had to offer.
Tablet time
The ATIV Q is a dual Windows and Android tablet with an enormous 3200×1800 display. It can also swap to tablet, standing, typing and writing mode. It’s a 13-inch tablet and it’s a serious contender for a laptop as it weighs almost nothing: it’s 1.29kg and for now there’s no price attached.
The next tablet that gets a revamp is the ATIV Tab 3 and its described by Samsung as the world’s thinnest Windows 8 tablet. It even comes with the S Pen, the fairly responsive stylus last seen in the Galaxy Note 8. It even has a ten-hour battery life. The ATIV Tab 3 can run all Window 8 apps and runs SideSync which allows users to control a Samsung-based Android smartphone from a PC keyboard.
Grown up Galaxy Camera
The Galaxy NX is a serious camera-Android hybrid. It’s the world’s first 4G interchangeable lens camera with wireless and wifi connectivity. It’s meant for the “professional at heart” who wants to share large quality images with relative ease. It even tells you where to shoot with a built-in app called Photo Suggest which tells you where to shoot, based on other photographers recommendations.
The imaging power comes from the 20.3MP APS-C Sensor which shoots detailed shots in low-light conditions, and since the lens is interchangeable, getting a good shot with an Android device is now a reality — it’s Android 4.2 powered device so there’ll be a metric ton of apps to go along with the Galaxy NX on launch day.

Skinny and shiny
First up is the ATIV One 5 Style, a Windows 8 all-in one PC that has the Samsung Galaxy design. That is, it’s almost marble white with that stylish plastic look. The frame is only 4.5mm thin which is fairly slim and incredible. It’ll be interesting to see how skinny the ATIV One 5 Style really is. It also looks like it will be in direct competition with Apple’s iMac range.
Samsung’s two laptops are the flagship ATIV Book 9 Plus and mid-range Book 9 Lite. Both are 13-inch laptops that weigh under 1.5Kg. Let’s start with the Plus which has a 3200×1800 Gorilla Glass display, a core i5 or i7 CPU, 8GB RAM and has a 12-hour battery life. There’s a lot more to talk about with the Book 9 Lite: It comes with a 1366×768 display and a 1.4Ghz AMD CPU. The machine comes with 4GB RAM, and there’ll be a touch and non-touch model.
Galaxy spin-offs
The Galaxy S4 is being spun off into three different models. The Zoom — comes with a 10x Optical Zoom, OIS, Xenon flash and 16MP sensor. The Active – it’s IP67 certified so it’s mostly dust and waterproof.
There was also the Galaxy S4 Mini, with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen and it looked very much like the proper, grown up S4.
