Xbox One in-game recording to be 720p at 30 frames per second
One of the Xbox One’s many upcoming features is that you’ll be able to capture some in-game footage. In a recent Ask and Answer with IGN, Microsoft confirmed that the display quality of the recorded footage will be limited to 720p at 30 frames per second.
Games that put out 1080p at 60 frames per second will have their last five minutes recorded at lower resolution. A beautiful HD display like Forza Mototsport 5‘s will essentially be dumbed down when your showing your friends your latest lap.

DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is the built-in capture feature that would allow gamers to upload footage to Xbox’s cloud and watch it later in the Xbox One Guide. “This service allows you to manage, edit, and share your content” as well, says Marc Whitten.
Furthermore, Whitten notes “you’ll also see games take advantage of this platform capability and do interesting things to integrate captured game footage into the game experience itself, and making ‘magic moments’ videos of your gameplay.” Not too sure what’s meant by that.
This is a thoughtful feature Xbox decided to include in distinguishing itself from the PlayStation 4. Gamers love recording impressive stunts, Easter eggs, tips and tricks. Now we can… only at 720p.
The avatar or gamerpics, as he calls it, will be in HD though. “They are beautiful, and you are going to see some really cool hero moments, like when you login to see personalized views of your games and other content.”
Unlike the PS4, the Xbox One will have integrated DVR capabilities. In the battle to be the most next-gen, will subtle features like these tilt the tense battle in Xbox One’s favour? And do these options really sway the average buyer into one purchasing decision or another? Tense times indeed.
