Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime everything the S5 should have been
Samsung Galaxy S5 owners, stop reading now for those who want to avoid bursting a blood-vessel in anger. Everyone else, welcome to the story.
According to Phonearena, an aluminium-wrapped S5 Prime is coming soon, the phone which Samsung should have released instead of its underwhelming S5. While LG prepares to launch its brushed-metal G3, Samsung’s S5 Prime hides in the corner betting that its QHD 1440×2560 display and quad-core CPU will best LG’s new flagship phone.
The site also managed to grab three shots of the supposed S5 Prime. Sources say that the S5 Prime is currently “undergoing testing” as it has not yet been officially announced by Samsung, but expect the company to begin promoting the S5 Prime soon.
The Galaxy S5 and the Prime share the same looks, save for the admittedly attractive aluminium shell. Yet it’s the specifications that differentiate the two models. The S5 has 2GB RAM; the Prime will have 3GB. The S5 has a Snapdragon 801 CPU; the Prime rocks a far beefier 805 CPU (it’s 64-bit and outputs 4K video with ease). And finally, the graphics processing unit (GPU) will upgrade from an Adreno 330 to an Adreno 440 (which according to this report, isn’t really that great). Also, aluminium will replace the cheap and tacky dimpled plastic rear of the S5.
This tactic, of Samsung releasing the phone it should have, a mere month after the launch of its flagship S5 is frustrating to say the least. Owners of an expensive, inferior product (in comparison to the Prime) should be rightly upset. Would this frustrate users enough to jump over to the soon-to-be-released LG G3? For many, it may just. As we said though, this story and images may be fake so we’ll give Samsung the benefit of the doubt until an official launch.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 launched 11 April and garnered great to mediocre reviews, but all S5 owners will be wondering why Samsung just didn’t release the S5 with the features of the Prime. For those desperate to own ever Samsung phone ever, the S5 Prime — which may come pre-loaded with Android 4.3.3 (the S5 comes with Android 4.4.2)– should be a decent addition for any feature-phone-loving user.
