Original Apple Mac gets modern design refresh, power boost
Apple’s Macintosh wasn’t exactly dropped from an unidentified spacecraft late at night over the skies of Cupertino. If anything, the machine that now boasts hardware that pushes the limits of style and design has been some 30 years in the making. It has evolved since then, but the original 1984 can still take a geek’s breath away.
A German design company (and an enormous Apple fan) CURVED/labs has made a loving hat-tip to Apple’s original living-room conquering machine, creating an Apple Mac in the same stylistic vein as its forefather. The subtle curve of the body props up a touchscreen around the same size as the original except the entire CRT portion of the screen is non-existent, for obvious reasons.
CURVED/labs anniversary model, as it’s calling it, doesn’t skimp on substance either.
The technological basis for the CURVED/labs-Mac are components of a current Macbook Air with an 11-inch screen. However, we have transformed it into a touchscreen: You can choose whether to control it via mouse and keyboard or directly type directly on the 11.6 inch touchscreen.
There’s an SSD with 128GB capacity, between 4 and 8GB RAM and an Intel Core i7 for thrust. The company notes that the casing is made from the aluminium currently used in contemporary Apple products with the illuminated logo not forgotten at the rear.
The only issue is that is doesn’t quite exist. It’s a design mock-up celebrating the advancements Steve Jobs and his Apple has made over the course of history. Will it ever be made, Apple? It would look quite fetching in a library after all.
We think CURVED/labs has done quite a good job, but what are your thoughts? Let us know in the comment section below.
