PlayStation 4 firmware update 3.0 brings YouTube Gaming streaming, more game save storage

While Sony ran away with the console sales title a long time ago, its playing catch up to Microsoft‘s ever improving Xbox One. It’s latest ploy is a firmware update that looks to add a little more functionality to the system. But what does that mean, exactly?

Well, YouTube Gaming streaming is now a thing, much like the PlayStation 4‘s previous relationship with Twitch. Users can now also request to watch their friends play a particular title as well.

Keeping with the streaming gaming theme, the PlayStation 4’s dashboard will now have an “events” tab, which will alert gamers to particular happenings for each of the installed titles.

“For instance, you may see an update for a Double XP weekend, a special enemy appearing at a scheduled time, or seasonal events like in-game towns being decorated for the winter,” explains the PlayStation Blog.

“You’ll also receive notifications when the event starts, or if the timing changes.”

Sony has also increased its online storage offering for those signed up to PlayStation Plus from 1GB to 10GB, for saved games and the like.

Overall, “Kenshin” seems to be a fairly hefty update feature wise. It launches to beta today, so those on the Dashboard Preview Program can download it from today.
