A new study has found that just over one in four smartphones sold in the Chinese market were from Xiaomi.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun cited Sino’s Monthly Market Analysis Report for April, which found that the company was responsible for 26% of all smartphone sales in the country.
The Xiaomi bigwig posted the information to his Weibo account, revealing statistics for other companies in the process. How did everyone else fare then?
In second place was Huawei’s Honor sub-brand, at 15.7%, while Huawei proper was sitting at 8%. The Honor brand generally delivers phones with cheaper prices than Huawei-branded devices, along with an emphasis on online sales.
When combining the two Huawei-owned brands, the Xiaomi rival sits close at 23.7%.
Best of the rest
In third place was newcomer LeTV (10.5%), a Chinese tech and video streaming firm that has quickly established itself thanks to its beefy yet well-priced smartphones.
Apple and its iPhone range were sitting in fourth place, grabbing 8.2% of the Chinese market, according to the report.
Veteran mobile player Meizu, recently launching the M3 Note budget phablet, was sitting in fifth place (7.0%).
In an interesting note, the “others” section accounted for a massive 17.1% of the market – a testament to the competitive nature of the sector.
There are several other notable handset manufacturers in the country, including Coolpad, Gionee, ZTE, Alcatel OneTouch and Oppo, no doubt contributing in a big way to the “others” section.
