Overwatch beta smashes records with 9.7-million players
According to Blizzard Entertainment, Overwatch‘s open beta was the company’s best ever with 9.7-million global players.
When the open-beta closed on 10 May, players had collectively logged over 4.9-billion minutes of playtime across 37-million matches, according to a press release.
Those numbers work out to over 9300 days of gameplay time. These numbers were spread across the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.
CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Morhaime, says: “We’re thrilled that such an incredible number of players from around the globe got a chance to check out Overwatch during the Open Beta.”
“Our mission was to make sure as many console and PC gamers as possible could experience the full game ahead of its launch—the response was overwhelming, and we hope that everyone had a blast,” says Morhaime.
This number eclipses Destiny‘s 4.6-million and Tom Clancy’s The Division‘s 6.4-million beta tester players.
The game will be released on 24 May for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
