Xbox One backwards compatibility gets multiple disc support for Xbox 360
The ability to play Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One is a rather impressive technical feat, but it’s not without drawbacks though. One of the biggest issues was the lack of support for games that spanned multiple discs.
Fortunately, Microsoft’s engineers have solved this problem, as Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut is the first multiple disc title to be backwards-compatible.
Microsoft’s Major Nelson confirmed the news on reddit.
“I can confirm that the BC [backwards compatibility – ed] team has done work to support multi disc scenarios. Be sure to thank the BC engineers,” Nelson was quoted as saying.
The news means that it’s now technically possible for more Xbox 360 titles to come to Xbox One.
Prominent Xbox 360 titles that span multiple discs include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Mass Effect 2 and 3, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Rage, LA Noire and Battlefield 3.
Of course, the Xbox One makes use of Blu-Ray discs, while the Xbox 360 uses dual-layer DVDs that don’t hold as much data.
