Mini Metro, I Am Bread on Android: this week’s top mobile games
Welcome to Gearburn’s Mobile Game Picks of the Week, a weekly series in which Hadlee takes a look at the latest, most entertaining, or time-consuming mobile games on portable screens.
We’re always on the lookout for some great mobile games, so what have we found this time?
Well, my favourite picks are Mini Metro and I Am Bread on Android, but there are three more games to be had. Check them all out below.
FIFA Mobile Soccer (free – Android, iOS)
It’s FIFA, what more do I need to say? Okay, fine… The latest FIFA game on smartphones offers 30 leagues and 650 teams, as well as the usual squad-building and strategic mechanics.
The game also offers an Attack Mode that puts you in (duh) an attacking position, as well as daily Live Events. The latter means that you’ll always have a new challenge on hand, doing a solid job of increasing longevity.
It’s worth noting that some players have complained of instability issues but your mileage may vary.
PewDiePie’s Tuber Simulator (free – Android, iOS)
This one’s been out for a while now, but I only got around to installing it this week. And the premise is pretty much what you think it is.
Yep, you’re on a quest to become the biggest and best Tuber (not YouTuber, because copyright issues, presumably). And this is all accomplished by finishing quests, choosing video topics and playing minigames. Do all this and you’ll unlock items for your streaming pad and gain subs in the process.
The biggest downside to the game is that it relies heavily on virtual currency and cooldown timers. But give it a try anyway.
Mini Metro (paid – Android, iOS)
Ever wanted to overhaul the subway system in New York City? No? Why the hell not? Well, anyway, Mini Metro lets you do just that.
The game tasks you with drawing between stations to keep the transport system going, but you’ll also need to modify routes as new stations come online. The game also includes 11 real-world cities, such as Melbourne, Osaka, Cairo and Sao Paulo.
Mini Metro isn’t cheap though, coming in at R79 on Android and R100 on iOS, but it’s a great port of a PC title.
Plants vs Zombies Heroes (free – Android, iOS)
The Plants vs Zombies phenomenon shows no sign of letting up, with Garden Warfare 2 still being a solid fixture on console and PC. Now, the franchise moves to the collectible card genre.
Heroes has you trying to build the ultimate team, offering 20 different heroes, PVP combat and the ability to play as zombies as well.
The game is free to play but do be wary of in-app purchases, especially if you have kids.
I Am Bread (paid – Android, iOS)
It’s been available on Apple devices for a while now, but Android gamers can finally see what I Am Bread is all about.
The game has you playing as a slice of bread, simply on a mission to become toast. But the game’s physics-heavy nature means that you’ll be flinging the slice across all manner of obstacles.
I Am Bread is available for R99 on iOS and R59 on Android.
